Explore the masterpieces of Mimar Sinan in Istanbul, the architect who represents the pinnacle of Ottoman architecture. You’ll discover firsthand the architectural philosophy of this genius, who produced more than 300 works in 50 years. The tour begins at the Şehzade Mosque — Sinan’s “apprenticeship work.” Then you’ll walk to the Süleymaniye Mosque — known as his “journeyman’s work” — and take a close look at this magnificent structure that defines Istanbul’s skyline. Our guide, Pınar Hoca, will explain Süleymaniye’s acoustics, play of light, and mathematical proportions. You’ll also discuss Sinan’s külliye (complex) concept and his vision of social architecture. Our final stop is the Rüstem Pasha Mosque — small in size, but the richest mosque in terms of İznik tiles. The tile patterns here are the high point of Ottoman art.
