See the finest examples of Byzantine art in their original setting. Mosaics, frescoes, and icons scattered across different parts of Istanbul — many hidden in places most tourists never discover. We’ll begin with the magnificent mosaics at the Chora Museum (Chora Church) — these 14th-century mosaics depicting the life of Jesus Christ are a pinnacle of Byzantine art. Next, we’ll visit the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate in Fener. Our final stop will be the restored frescoes in a little-known Byzantine church. Mr. Serkan will explain the iconography, symbolism, and place in art history of each mosaic and fresco.
